Airtel and SpaceX Partner to Introduce Starlink Internet in India
Airtel and SpaceX have announced a partnership to bring Starlink’s satellite internet services to India, marking Starlink’s first collaboration in the country. The agreement is subject to regulatory approvals, allowing SpaceX to operate Starlink in India. As part of the partnership, Airtel may distribute Starlink equipment through its retail network and offer services to business clients.
The collaboration aims to expand connectivity in underserved regions, focusing on rural areas, schools, and healthcare facilities. Additionally, both companies will explore how Starlink’s technology can enhance Airtel’s existing network, while SpaceX may leverage Airtel’s ground infrastructure and resources.
Airtel plans to integrate Starlink with its current partnership with Eutelsat OneWeb, ensuring nationwide connectivity, particularly in remote areas. The company will also offer Starlink’s enterprise solutions, providing seamless connectivity packages for businesses and communities.
Gopal Vittal, Managing Director and Vice Chairman of Bharti Airtel Ltd, emphasized the importance of the collaboration with SpaceX, stating:
