Apple’s First Foldable iPhone Production to Start Late 2025, Launch Expected in Fall 2026

apple foldable iphone fall 2026 launch leak.

Apple is reportedly gearing up to begin production of its first foldable iPhone by late Q3 or early Q4 of 2025, according to renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Foxconn is expected to handle assembly, though several hardware elements, including the hinge design, are still being finalized.

Display Locked In, Samsung to Supply Panels -

While many components are still in development, Kuo notes that the foldable display has already been finalized. Samsung Display has been chosen as the exclusive panel supplier and is preparing to produce 7 to 8 million units annually.

However, since production will only cover part of 2026, actual shipments that year are expected to fall short of full capacity.

Gradual Rollout Over Several Years -

Apple is believed to have placed an order for 15 to 20 million units, which will be distributed over a two to three-year period. Kuo anticipates that Apple will ship around 3 to 5 million foldable iPhones in 2026, with additional units following in 2027 and 2028, indicating a cautious, phased rollout strategy, likely due to the expected high price point.

    Design and Feature Expectations -

In a previous report from March 2025, Kuo outlined potential specifications: a book-style foldable form factor with a 7.8-inch internal display and a 5.5-inch cover screen, a titanium alloy frame, ultra-thin profile (under 5mm when unfolded), dual-camera system, and a side-mounted Touch ID sensor.

    Tentative Launch Window -

Apple is currently targeting a fall 2026 launch for the foldable iPhone, likely alongside the iPhone 18 series. However, Kuo cautions that the timeline remains flexible depending on how development progresses through the remainder of 2025.
