Apple has launched its new mid-range iPhone in the 17 series, the iPhone 17e in the Global Market, including India. The device introduces updated silicon and Apple-designed connectivity hardware while maintaining key flagship-level features.

Performance and Connectivity -

The iPhone 17e is powered by Apple’s latest A19 chip, built on an advanced 3-nanometer process. It also debuts Apple’s newest in-house cellular modem.

• A19 Chip - Features a 6-core CPU that Apple claims delivers up to twice the performance of the iPhone 11. The 4-core GPU supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing for enhanced gaming visuals.
• Neural Engine - A 16-core Neural Engine enables on-device processing of large generative AI models and supports Apple Intelligence features.
• C1X Modem - Apple’s custom C1X modem delivers speeds comparable to the iPhone Air and is said to be up to twice as fast as the C1 modem used in the iPhone 16e. It also consumes 30% less power than the modem found in the iPhone 16 Pro.

Design and Display -

The iPhone 17e retains a familiar smartphone design, built with an aerospace-grade aluminum frame and rated IP68 for water and dust resistance.

• Display - 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED panel with peak HDR brightness reaching 1200 nits.
• Ceramic Shield 2 - The second-generation Ceramic Shield includes an anti-reflective coating to reduce glare and is claimed to offer three times better scratch resistance than its predecessor.
• Hardware Features - Face ID enables secure authentication, while the customizable Action Button allows users to assign shortcuts or specific functions.

Camera and Video -

The iPhone 17e features a single-lens camera system designed to provide multiple focal lengths through advanced sensor cropping.

• 48MP Fusion Camera - Captures 24MP images by default, with support for full 48MP resolution shots. The sensor’s center crop enables a 2x optical-quality telephoto zoom.
• Portrait and HDR Enhancements - The camera automatically records depth data when detecting people or pets, allowing background blur adjustments after capture. Updated HDR processing improves skin tones and preserves highlight and shadow details.
• Video Capabilities - Supports 4K Dolby Vision recording at up to 60fps. It also records Spatial Audio for playback on compatible devices and uses machine learning for wind noise reduction.

Battery, Charging, and Software -

Efficiency improvements stem from the A19 chip, the power-optimized C1X modem, and iOS 26.

• Wired Charging - USB-C fast charging reaches 50% in about 30 minutes.
• Wireless Charging - Compatible with MagSafe and Qi2, delivering wireless speeds up to 15W — an upgrade over the 7.5W Qi limit on the previous iPhone 16e.

The iPhone 17e also continues Apple’s emergency features, including Satellite Connectivity in supported regions and Crash Detection, enhancing safety and off-grid communication capabilities.

The iPhone 17e comes in Black, White, and new Soft Pink colours, and it will be available for pre-order in over 70 countries and regions, including India, starting Wednesday, March 4, with sales beginning on Wednesday, March 11.
