Samsung to Bring AI Assistant Activation via Side Button to Selected Galaxy A Series Models
Samsung has announced that select Galaxy A series smartphones will soon support AI assistant activation via the side button—a feature previously exclusive to the Galaxy S series. This move aligns with Samsung's commitment to expanding AI access across a broader range of devices.
An upcoming software update will allow users to launch AI experiences, including Google’s Gemini assistant, by pressing and holding the side button.
Recently, Samsung introduced “Awesome Intelligence” on several Galaxy A models, such as the Galaxy A56 5G, A36 5G, and A26 5G, bringing select AI-driven features to these devices. The upcoming update will extend easy access to Gemini, helping more Galaxy A users perform everyday tasks with greater convenience.
The goal is to enhance the mobile experience across the Galaxy A series, known for its value-performance balance. With this update, users will be able to access Gemini for tasks like checking calendars, finding nearby businesses, or getting gift suggestions—all through voice commands.
The functionality will also work across various apps, including Samsung, Google, and select third-party apps. For instance, users can locate a restaurant on Google Maps and share its location via Messages with a single command.
Samsung highlights this integration as a way to deliver faster, more intuitive help for daily tasks—such as making spontaneous plans. Users can speak naturally, asking for things like “Find pet-friendly French restaurants with terrace seating nearby,” and receive relevant suggestions.
The update's global rollout begins in early May for select Galaxy A series models. Availability and supported features may vary by market, carrier, and device. Eligible models include the Galaxy A56 5G, A55 5G, A54 5G, A36 5G, A35 5G, A34 5G, A26 5G, A25 5G, A25e 5G, and A24 running One UI 7. Rollout timing is subject to change.
