Google Pixel Tag Launched in India at Rs. 3,799 with Find Hub, UWB, Bluetooth Channel Sounding

Google has launched its first finder tag designed, the Pixel Tag in India to help users keep track of belongings such as keys, wallets, and luggage. The device uses Google's Find Hub network to locate tagged items over Bluetooth when they are nearby and relies on a network of more than one billion Android devices when they are out of Bluetooth range.

Design and Build

The Pixel Tag features a slim stainless-steel design combined with polycarbonate and metal construction. It measures 46.1 x 28 x 5.4mm and weighs 11.8g. The tracker also carries an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, allowing it to withstand immersion in up to 1 metre of water for 30 minutes. It is powered by a user-replaceable CR2032 coin-cell battery that provides more than a year of battery life.

The tracker comes with a built-in speaker and a dedicated button that can be used to locate the tag or a connected smartphone:

• The speaker can play an alert sound to help users find the Pixel Tag.
• The button can make the connected smartphone ring even when the phone is set to silent mode.

Setup and Find Hub Features

The Pixel Tag requires an Android smartphone running Android 9 or later. After removing the battery tab, users can bring the tracker close to their smartphone and pair it using Fast Pair.

Through the Find Hub app, users can:

• Choose an item category or create a custom label for the tracker.
• View the location of the tagged item on a map.
• Share the Pixel Tag with up to 10 people.

When the tagged item is nearby and within Bluetooth range, Find Hub can make the Pixel Tag play a sound to help locate it. Ultra-Wideband and Bluetooth Channel Sounding enable Precision Finding, providing metre-by-metre distance information and directional guidance.

Users can also turn on Left Behind alerts to receive notifications when they move away from belongings attached to the Pixel Tag.

Find Hub Network and Privacy

When the Pixel Tag moves beyond Bluetooth range, Find Hub can use a network of more than one billion Android devices to help determine its location. Google says the network relies on end-to-end encrypted location information and does not store the location data of participating devices.

Android smartphones can also notify users if an unknown tracker is detected travelling with them. The notification provides instructions for making the unidentified tag ring and information on the next steps users can take.

Compatibility with Pixel Devices

The Pixel Tag also integrates with other Pixel products:

• Pixel Watch: Users can locate and ring the Pixel Tag through the Find Hub app or browser.
• Pixel Buds: Users can ask Gemini to ring the Pixel Tag.
• Wallets and Keys: Its slim design allows it to fit inside wallets and attach to items such as keys.
