LG Display Unveils Record-Breaking Stretchable Display with 50% Expansion Capability
LG Display has unveiled an innovative stretchable display that can expand up to 50%, setting a new industry benchmark. Demonstrated at LG Science Park in Seoul, this 12-inch screen stretches to 18 inches while maintaining high resolution and full-color fidelity.
This prototype surpasses LG's 2022 model, more than doubling its stretchability. This advancement is achieved through innovations like a specialized silicon substrate and a unique wiring design. The use of micro-LEDs enhances durability, allowing the display to be stretched over 10,000 times while enduring extreme temperatures and impacts.
These stretchable displays are thin and lightweight and can conform to curved surfaces, paving the way for applications in the fashion, wearables, and automotive industries. LG demonstrated concepts such as a stretchable automotive display and a wearable display for firefighters.
This achievement results from a national project led by LG Display in collaboration with industry and research institutions. Supported by South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the project aims to develop core technologies for next-generation displays.
Soo-young Yoon, CTO and Executive Vice President of LG Display, stated:
"We will continue to foster a sustainable future display ecosystem through close cooperation among South Korean industry, academia, and research stakeholders."
