Qualcomm Snapdragon Reality Elite Platform Debuts Globally for Spatial Computing and Generative XR

Qualcomm Technologies unveiled the Snapdragon® Reality Elite Platform, its latest spatial computing solution designed for next-generation XR devices at the Augmented World Expo (AWE) 2026. The platform is engineered to support a wide range of form factors, from premium all-in-one video-see-through (VST) headsets to lightweight tethered optical-see-through (OST) smart glasses.
Building on previous XR platforms, Snapdragon Reality Elite introduces major improvements in on-device AI processing, graphics performance, power efficiency, and thermal management, enabling more immersive and intelligent mixed-reality experiences.
Advanced On-Device Generative AI
A key highlight of the Snapdragon Reality Elite Platform is its ability to process AI workloads locally. Powered by the integrated Qualcomm® Hexagon™ NPU, the platform delivers up to 48 TOPS (Trillion Operations Per Second) of AI performance, allowing complex large language models (LLMs) and large vision models (LVMs) to run directly on-device with minimal cloud dependency.
According to Qualcomm, this AI capability exceeds the 38 TOPS performance offered by competing solutions such as the Apple Vision Pro.
AI Features and Capabilities
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Model Support | Llama 3B with up to 45 tokens per second and 0.8-second time-to-first-token; Stable Diffusion 512×512 image generation in approximately 1.7 seconds. |
| Contextual AI Experiences | Supports real-time object generation, intelligent virtual agents, NPCs, and photorealistic avatars powered by Gaussian Splatting. |
| Enhanced Tracking | Improves environmental awareness, hand tracking, head tracking, and VST responsiveness for natural interactions. |
Performance Improvements Over Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2

Qualcomm claims substantial generation-over-generation performance gains compared to the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 platform.
| Metric | Improvement |
|---|---|
| NPU Performance | Up to 160% higher performance at the same power level |
| GPU Performance | Up to 60% higher performance at the same power level |
| CPU Performance | Up to 30% higher performance at the same power level |
| Power Efficiency | Up to 64% lower GPU power consumption and 45% lower CPU power consumption at equivalent performance |
Enhanced Graphics and Display Support
The Snapdragon Reality Elite Platform supports displays with resolutions of up to 4.4K per eye at 90FPS. To improve visual realism and rendering efficiency, Qualcomm has incorporated several advanced graphics technologies.
- Hardware-accelerated ray tracing
- Mesh shading support
- Advanced slice architecture
- 30% higher DDR memory bandwidth
These upgrades are designed to deliver richer visuals while maintaining efficient power usage in XR environments.
Dedicated EVA Hardware Acceleration
To improve spatial computing performance, Qualcomm has integrated an upgraded Engine for Visual Analytics (EVA) block. This dedicated hardware accelerator offloads demanding computer vision workloads from the CPU and GPU.
Tasks Handled by EVA
- Motion estimation
- Depth estimation
- Feature detection
- Geometric correction
- 3D point cloud generation
- Triangulation and reconstruction
- 3D meshing
By processing these workloads through specialized hardware, the platform reduces overall power consumption during spatial mapping operations.
Qualcomm also reports more than a 10% reduction in peer-to-peer (P2P) latency within the VST pipeline, along with up to a 33% improvement in VST power efficiency while simultaneously enhancing image quality.
Improved Battery Life and Thermal Efficiency
Battery endurance and heat management remain critical for wearable XR devices. Qualcomm states that the Snapdragon Reality Elite Platform provides up to 20% longer battery life under similar workloads compared to previous generations.
The chipset is also capable of operating up to 12°C cooler under load, giving device manufacturers greater flexibility to develop thinner, lighter, and more comfortable headsets and smart glasses.
XR Ecosystem and Future Devices
Snapdragon Reality Elite has been designed for seamless integration with modern XR software ecosystems, including Android XR. Qualcomm confirmed that the platform will serve as the hardware foundation for upcoming consumer XR products such as XREAL's Project Aura and future mixed-reality devices from Play for Dream.

With major advancements in AI processing, graphics capabilities, power efficiency, and spatial computing acceleration, the Snapdragon Reality Elite Platform aims to set a new benchmark for immersive XR hardware across both headset and smart-glasses categories.
Note: Speaking about the latest advancements in XR technology, Ziad Asghar, Senior Vice President and General Manager of XR, Wearables, and Personal AI, said:
XR adoption continues to gain momentum, with more than 60 million devices already deployed worldwide and growing adoption across industries. As XR platforms become increasingly sophisticated and interconnected, the demand for solutions that offer greater performance, enhanced intelligence, and improved power efficiency continues to rise.
Snapdragon Reality Elite has been developed to address these evolving requirements through powerful on-device AI capabilities, enabling faster, longer-lasting, and more immersive user experiences. The platform also strengthens Qualcomm’s leadership in the VR and MR segments as the company continues to build purpose-designed XR chipsets from the ground up.
