Samsung Gear S2 and Gear VR launching in India on January 21st
Samsung is all set to launch its unique Gear S2 smartwatch and Gear VR Virtual Reality headset on January 21st in India.
The Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic smartwatches were announced at IFA last year running Samsung's own Tizen platform. The most unique part of the new Tizen based smartwatch is that it has a rotating bezel, which is one of the easiest and most intuitive ways to interact with the watch.
Coming to specs, the Gear S2 has a 1.2-inch (360x360 pixels) Circular Super AMOLED display surrounded by the rotating bezel, 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage alongwith WiFi, Bluetooth and NFC support. It has IP67 rating for dust and water resistance as well. Samsung has packed a 250mAh battery on the Gear S2 which should suffice 1 day of use. The Gear S2 is compatible with any Android smartphone running Android 4.4 KitKat or above.
Samsung has also partnered with Oculus for the new GearVR headset which is compatible with the Galaxy Note5, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge. Its lighter than the previous-gen variant, has an improved touchpad too. There's better cushioning, and an adjustable belt to make the device easier to wear.
The Gear S2 is available on sale in the US for $299.99 which roughly translates to about Rs. 20,000 which is in the same price bracket as the Android Wear powered Moto 360 2nd-gen. The Gear VR headset on the other hand will be priced around Rs. 6000, which is pretty steep for an add-on accessory. We'll know more about pricing and availability from the launch event.
