TCL and Sony announce global joint venture for Bravia TVs and home audio products

In a surprise move, TCL has announced plans to acquire Sony’s home entertainment business, including its TV and home audio divisions. The two companies will form a joint venture, with TCL holding a majority 51% stake.

According to the official press release, the TCL-led venture will combine Sony’s expertise in premium picture and audio technologies, strong brand value, and operational know-how with TCL’s advanced display technologies, global scale, manufacturing footprint, and end-to-end cost efficiency. Despite the new structure, products will continue to be sold under the Sony and Bravia brands.

The newly formed joint venture will operate globally. The binding agreement is expected to be finalized by the end of March, with the new company projected to begin operations in April 2027, subject to regulatory approvals and the fulfillment of other customary conditions.

This strategic partnership reflects a significant shift in Sony’s home entertainment strategy, while allowing TCL to strengthen its presence in the premium TV and audio segments by aligning with Sony’s long-standing brand equity and technological legacy.
