Sony Xperia Event Set for May 13; Expected Xperia 1 VIII with Redesigned Camera Module
Sony has announced its next Xperia product launch event for May 13, where the company is widely expected to unveil the new Sony Xperia 1 VIII flagship smartphone, after rumors.
The teaser hints at a redesigned rear camera module, shifting from the traditional vertical layout to a square-shaped camera deco, matching earlier leaked renders. According to recent rumors, the device could arrive in Graphite Black, Iolite Silver, Garnet Red, and Native Gold colour options.
Sony has already confirmed that its upcoming Xperia smartphones launching in 2026 will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform, and the Xperia 1 VIII is expected to feature the flagship chipset.
Leaks suggest the phone may pack three 48MP rear cameras, including an upgraded telephoto sensor replacing the 12MP unit used in previous models. However, reports indicate Sony could remove the continuous variable optical zoom functionality. The company is still expected to retain features favored by long-time Xperia users, such as the 3.5mm headphone jack and microSD card slot.
The Sony Xperia launch event is scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM JST (7:30 AM IST) on May 13 and will be livestreamed globally. Like several recent flagship smartphones, the Xperia 1 VIII is also expected to see a price hike over its predecessor.
