Vivo has officially announced that it will unveil the Vivo Vision Explorer Edition mixed reality headset at an event in China on August 21st, alongside its imaging festival.

According to tipster Digital Chat Station, the headset will feature one of the industry’s top-tier displays, run on Qualcomm’s 4nm platform, and focus heavily on weight optimization and wearing comfort. He added that vivo aims for interaction and content quality comparable to Apple’s offerings, though the advanced hardware suggests it won’t come cheap.

Vivo Smart Terminal Product General Manager Hong Yi described the headset’s standout feature as a breakthrough in interaction:

Gestures can precisely control whatever you look at, as naturally as reaching out and grabbing something in real life. Aside from Apple Vision Pro, we’re the only company to achieve this. It frees users from the limitations of 2D touch, allowing them to grab in-game objects or seamlessly drag and drop floating work documents, restoring interaction to its most intuitive form.

Vivo Product Manager Han Boxiao also emphasized the headset’s “lightweight” design, challenging the common perception of MR headsets as heavy. He noted that this is not just a marketing gimmick but a key innovation intended to deliver both comfort and an immersive experience.

First showcased at the Boao Forum for Asia in March, the Explorer Edition is now officially introduced. As the name implies, it won’t be available for purchase this year. However, following its launch, vivo will open in-store experience reservations, gathering real-world user feedback to further refine the product and its ecosystem. Vivo is inviting users to try it firsthand and share their impressions.
