Xiaomi has officially confirmed the launch of its Xiaomi 17 series smartphones in China later this September, skipping the “Xiaomi 16” branding. This follows the company’s earlier pattern, as seen with the Xiaomi 15 series, which debuted soon after the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip announcement.

This time, Xiaomi will unveil three flagship models — the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, all powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset.

Leaked details suggest the series will feature a 6.3-inch 1.5K 120Hz OLED display, a 50MP OmniVision main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a 50MP telephoto lens with a Samsung ISOCELL JN5 sensor. The lineup is also expected to include another 50MP sensor, HyperOS 3 based on Android 16, an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, IP68/IP69 ratings, and a 7000mAh battery with support for 100W wired and 50W wireless fast charging.

According to Xiaomi President Lu Weibing, the Xiaomi 17 series represents a major milestone in the company’s five-year premium strategy, marking a generational leap across the entire digital lineup.

    • The Xiaomi 17 is positioned as the most powerful standard flagship to date, delivering comprehensive upgrades without a price hike.
    • The Xiaomi 17 Pro will serve as Xiaomi’s most advanced compact imaging flagship.
    • The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max will stand as the company’s most powerful flagship in the industry, pushing the limits of ultra-high-end technology.

Speaking about the Xiaomi 17 series and its rivalry with Apple, Lu Weibing said:

Five years ago, we set out on our premium strategy, taking lessons from our strongest competitor and benchmarking ourselves against the iPhone. Even today, Apple remains a leader, and the success of the iPhone 17 series is clear to everyone. Yet, we are confident — confident enough to compete with the iPhone head-on, in the same generation and at the same level.

That confidence comes from the solid progress we’ve achieved over the past five years. We’ve redefined what it means to create a truly high-end product — not only with top-tier specifications but also with a focus on user experience and the seamless integration of hardware and software. This approach has driven Xiaomi’s significant advances in the premium smartphone space.

Equally important are our ongoing technological innovations. In the last five years, we’ve invested over 100 billion RMB in R&D, and we plan to double that to 200 billion RMB in the next five years. The Xiaomi 17 series showcases many of these latest breakthroughs.

And beyond just technology, we’ve worked to bring fresh ideas to smartphones — innovations that go beyond incremental upgrades and aim to break the monotony in today’s market.”
