Google Fitbit Edge launched Globally with 1.34-inch AMOLED display, ECG, GPS and Replaceable Battery

Google has launched its new fitness tracker, the Fitbit Edge for the Global Market, positioned between lightweight screenless fitness bands and full-fledged smartwatches. The device brings Google Health Coach integration, a redesigned exterior, an upgraded sensor suite, and a modular internal structure designed to improve repairability.
Hardware and Display Design
The Fitbit Edge features an aluminum enclosure measuring 39.22 × 25.56 × 11.58 mm and weighs 17.7 grams without the band.
On the front, the tracker features a 1.34-inch (34 mm) color AMOLED display with always-on functionality. Google says the screen offers 46% more viewing area than previous-generation Fitbit trackers. In addition to touchscreen navigation, the device includes a physical mechanical side button, allowing users to control functions such as pausing and resuming workouts with tactile feedback.

The tracker carries 5 ATM and IP68 ratings for water and dust resistance, making it suitable for swimming at depths of up to 50 meters. Another notable addition is its modular internal design, which includes a replaceable 65 mAh lithium-ion battery. This makes the Fitbit Edge Google's first repairable fitness tracker.

Activity and Location Tracking
The Fitbit Edge is powered by an Ambiq AP5 microcontroller paired with 64 MB of NOR flash storage. It can retain minute-by-minute motion records for seven days, while daily activity summaries are stored for up to 30 days.
- Independent GNSS: Built-in GPS and Galileo support enable route tracking without requiring a connected smartphone. Google claims that integrating a nano-molded antenna into the aluminum enclosure improves location accuracy by up to 40% compared with earlier models.
- Exercise Tracking: The tracker supports automatic activity recognition and manual workout tracking across more than 40 sports modes. Its integrated altimeter measures elevation changes, making it useful for trail running, hill training, and stair climbing.
- Performance Analysis: The Fitbit Edge tracks several health and fitness metrics, including Cardio Load, Daily Readiness, VO2 Max, and Active Zone Minutes. It also supports heart rate broadcasting to compatible gym equipment, allowing users to monitor their performance during workouts.
Biometrics and Health Monitoring

The Fitbit Edge combines optical, thermal, and electrical sensors to deliver continuous health monitoring. Its optical PPG sensor measures resting heart rate around the clock at two-second intervals and can notify users when their heart rate crosses configured high or low thresholds.
- Cardiac Monitoring: The on-device ECG app enables users to record electrocardiograms on demand to check for signs of atrial fibrillation (AFib). The tracker also supports background notifications for irregular heart rhythms.
- Overnight Recovery: Sleep-stage tracking works alongside blood oxygen saturation (SpO2), heart rate variability (HRV), and a dedicated far-field skin temperature sensor to provide insights into overnight recovery.
- Health Insights: The platform monitors long-term changes in physiological baselines, including monthly blood pressure trends and estimated insulin resistance markers. These insights are presented with additional context in the Google Health app.
Everyday Utility and Battery Performance
With Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity, the Fitbit Edge can display smartphone notifications, offer quick text replies on compatible platforms, and control media playback. It also includes practical tools such as alarms, timers, and basic Google Maps navigation guidance.
The 65 mAh battery is rated to deliver up to seven days of use on a full charge. Its magnetic fast-charging system provides up to 24 hours of typical use with just five minutes of charging, while a complete recharge takes approximately 90 minutes.
