Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 launched with Up to 4.6GHz Oryon CPU, 1.2GHz Adreno GPU, 37% faster NPU

At the Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit 2025, Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, its latest flagship mobile platform, as previously promised.

CPU -

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is powered by Qualcomm’s 3rd generation custom Oryon CPU, reaching peak speeds of up to 4.6 GHz. Compared to its predecessor, it delivers 20% higher single-core performance, 17% multi-core improvement, up to 35% better CPU power efficiency, and 16% overall SoC power savings. The CPU configuration includes 2 Prime cores at 4.6 GHz and 6 Performance cores at 3.63 GHz, paired with LPDDR5X memory clocked at 5300MHz.

GPU -

The platform features a next-generation Adreno GPU with a sliced architecture and 1.2 GHz clock speed, offering a 23% boost in performance, 20% lower power consumption, and 25% better Ray Tracing compared to the previous generation. It also introduces Adreno High Performance Memory (HPM) and supports advanced gaming features like Tile Memory Heap and Mesh Shading. Full Unreal Engine 5 support brings console-quality visuals and immersive gameplay to mobile devices for the first time.

NPU -

The upgraded Hexagon NPU is 37% faster and includes additional AI accelerators, enabling devices to run large language models (LLMs) and on-device AI agents efficiently without excessive battery drain. The enhanced NPU delivers 16% better performance per watt.

ISP -

The Qualcomm Spectra AI ISP introduces multiple enhancements. It is the first mobile platform to support Advanced Professional Video (APV) Codec, providing near-lossless video quality and advanced post-production control over highlights, shadows, and color grading, empowering creators to fully realize their vision.

Additionally, it is the world’s first mobile platform with triple 20-bit ISPs, delivering 4x the dynamic range for advanced computational photography in close collaboration with the Hexagon NPU. The AI-powered ISP handles tasks like Night Vision 3.0 and real-time tone adjustments, ensuring stunning images and videos.

Connectivity -

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 features the Snapdragon X85 5G Modem-RF System, setting a new benchmark in 5G technology by combining Release 17 and 18 capabilities with a 5G AI processor. This enables 30% faster AI inferencing, delivering smarter and more reliable mobile experiences, with download speeds up to 12.5 Gbps and uplink speeds reaching 3.7 Gbps.

The platform also integrates the FastConnect 7900 Mobile Connectivity System, which provides 40% improved power efficiency over the previous generation and up to 50% lower gaming latency through AI-enhanced Wi-Fi.

For advanced spatial and proximity features, the chipset supports UWB, Wi-Fi ranging, and Bluetooth Channel Sounding with Proximity AI, enabling capabilities such as locating lost items, controlling access to secure areas, and more.

Qualcomm stated that brands including HONOR, iQOO, Nubia, OnePlus, OPPO, POCO, realme, REDMI, RedMagic, ROG, Samsung, Sony, vivo, Xiaomi, and ZTE are set to release devices powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in the coming days.
