Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite launched with Up to 45% faster Oryon CPU, 40% faster GPU, 45% faster NPU
Qualcomm unveiled its latest flagship Mobile Platform, the Snapdragon 8 Elite, at the Snapdragon Tech Summit 2023.
CPU -
This platform features Qualcomm’s 2nd-generation custom Oryon CPU, delivering up to 4.32 GHz peak speeds. Compared to its predecessor, the new CPU offers a 45% improvement in performance across single and multi-threaded benchmarks, along with a 44% boost in power efficiency. It includes two Prime cores clocked at 4.32 GHz and six Performance cores at 3.53 GHz, and supports fast LPDDR5X memory at 5300MHz. The SoC’s industry-leading shared cache enables ultra-fast data retrieval, contributing to overall power savings of up to 27%, which can extend gaming sessions by as much as 2.5 hours.
The 2nd-gen Oryon CPU is 30% faster than the 1st-gen version while consuming 57% less power. According to Qualcomm, it significantly outperforms the Apple A18 Pro in benchmarks and delivers up to 162% higher performance compared to the Intel Core Ultra 7 Series 2, which requires 190% more power to reach its peak performance.
GPU -
The platform features the first-ever Adreno GPU with sliced architecture, each slice having dedicated memory for improved performance and battery life. This GPU boasts a 40% increase in both performance and power efficiency, along with a 35% boost in ray-tracing capabilities compared to the previous generation. It’s also the first mobile GPU to fully support Unreal Engine 5.3 Nanite, enabling film-quality 3D environments for immersive experiences.
NPU -
Qualcomm’s AI Engine incorporates the fastest-ever Qualcomm Hexagon NPU, offering a 45% improvement in AI performance and efficiency. The Multimodal Gen AI system enhances user interactions by processing voice, text, images, and even interpreting camera input for tasks like summarization and content creation. It can also rapidly digest large amounts of information, such as book chapters, to provide expert insights on demand.
ISP -
The new AI-powered ISP works in tandem with the Hexagon NPU to deliver advanced image capture capabilities. It features Limitless Segmentation, which can identify and optimize over 250 layers within an image, including faces, clothing, and backgrounds. Insight AI enhances natural skin and sky tones, even in challenging lighting conditions. Truepic with C2PA technology offers cryptographic seals for authenticating photos, videos, and audio as real, not AI-generated. Additionally, the on-device Video Object Eraser allows users to remove unwanted elements from footage, supporting vivid 4K60 FPS video capture even in low light.
Connectivity -
The Snapdragon 8 Elite integrates the Snapdragon X80 5G Modem RF System and Qualcomm’s 3rd-gen 5G AI Suite for exceptional 5G performance and multi-gigabit speeds. Location accuracy is improved by 30%, even in complex environments like parking structures. This platform is the first to feature a 4×6 MIMO solution for enhanced connectivity and the first DSDA (Dual SIM Dual Active) system with global coverage.
Wi-Fi 7 support enables speeds up to 5.8 Gbps, along with dual Bluetooth connectivity for uninterrupted immersion. Qualcomm’s FastConnect 7800 Mobile Connectivity System enhances power efficiency by up to 40%. Additionally, the platform is the first to combine Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and UWB (Ultra-Wideband) for proximity-based services, such as locating lost items and accessing secure areas.
