Samsung Gear VR launched in India priced at Rs. 8200, available online on Flipkart
Alongwith the Gear S2, Samsung today also launched GearVR, its Virtual Reality headset in India. The GearVR headset has been built from the ground-up to support the 2015 Galaxy S6 flagship line-up and the Galaxy Note5.
For the GearVR, Samsung has partnered with Oculus - one of the leading product and research companies in the field of Virtual Reality for consumers. As we said earlier the Samsung Gear VR is just compatible with the Galaxy Note5, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, therefore its not a mainstream product. Samsung however emphasizes that the Super AMOLED displays and powerful hardware of its flagship smartphones are required for that immersive Virtual Reality experience which can match with a standalone unit.
The new Gear VR headset is lighter than the previous-gen variant, has an improved touchpad and better cushioning alongwith an adjustable belt to make the device easier to wear. There are volume controls and a micro-USB port to charge your phone when connected. The headset requires you to install the GearVR app available on the Play Store which offers content as well as settings for the device.
Its a one-step setup process, just plug and play. You can adjust the focus of the lenses with the focus-ring at the top based on your face. Its a well thought out product but quite expensive, especially since there won't be any bundles available with the Galaxy devices.
Pricing and Availability
The Samsung Gear VR headset has been priced at Rs. 8200 and will be available from Flipkart online as well as through offline retail stores, Samsung Exclusive stores.
