Vivo has officially announced the launch date for its next flagship foldable phone, the X Fold5, which will debut in China on June 25th. The teaser also confirms a triple rear camera setup with ZEISS optics, including a periscope telephoto lens. Previous leaks have suggested a 50MP Sony IMX921 main sensor, a 50MP autofocus ultra-wide camera, and a 50MP Sony IMX882 3x periscope telephoto camera.

Vivo product manager Han Boxiao recently shared impressive 1x, 20x zoom, and telephoto macro shots. He noted that the new periscope lens outperforms the one in the X Fold3 Pro—despite being housed in a body that is just 4.x mm thinner than the X Fold3.

The X Fold5 will be available in Green, Black, and Titanium. Vivo has confirmed that both inner and outer displays will feature 8T LTPO panels, 4500 nits peak local brightness, high-frequency PWM dimming at full brightness, and TÜV Rheinland Global Eye Protection 3.0. The display also supports ZEISS Master Color calibration.

In terms of durability, the phone carries three major certifications:

    • IPX8 (up to 3 meters water resistance),
    • IPX9 (resistance to high temperature and pressure),
    • IPX9+ (underwater foldable functionality), making it the first foldable in the industry to offer IP5X dust resistance.

The X Fold5 also introduces the Blue Ocean battery, capable of operating even in extreme cold, down to -30°C. Vivo claims that the X Fold5 will break the record for the world’s lightest inward-folding phone, surpassing the previous record held by the X Fold3 at 219g.

In a surprising integration move, vivo has confirmed that the X Fold5 will be the first Android phone to offer direct access to Apple iCloud. After signing in via the built-in file manager, users can access, view, edit, and sync iCloud photos, files, and Apple Notes in real time.

Additionally, the device will support dual-device connectivity with iPhones, allowing users to view iPhone text messages and verification codes on the X Fold5 and even answer iPhone calls directly from it.
