Apple AirPods delayed, no timeframe on new launch date yet
One of the most annoying things about the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus is its lack of the 3.5mm headphone jack. To cure that Apple created AirPods, the easiest way to listen to music wirelessly. They had announced that the AirPods will be launching this month, however now we are learning that Apple needs a bit more time to get them consumer ready.
Here's what an Apple spokesperson told Techcrunch about the delay:
The early response to AirPods has been incredible. We don’t believe in shipping a product before it’s ready, and we need a little more time before AirPods are ready for our customers.
Although not a new concept, we have already seen Samsung's Gear Icon X, and several other options from no-name brands, for Apple this is the first step. The company also created its own W1 wireless chip with its communication protocol to connect the AirPods to each other and your iPhone. They also have microphones at the bottom which form a beam for better reception and noise isolation. You can even use just one of the AirPods leaving the other behind.
For now, the reason for the delay is not known and Apple has been unclear on a timeframe as to when the AirPods will be available. Priced at $159, the AirPods aren't exactly an impulse buy. So it's better that Apple takes its own sweet time to iron our the kinks in software and hardware before these hit the market.
